Nonna’s 1977 Pizzeria (Astoria) 

Nonna’s story begins in 1977 on the Lower East Side, where Momma Leone had the idea to sell pizza in Italian style squares. Everything from their dough, which is infused with extra virgin olive oil, and their cheese, which is homemade and pulled fresh every morning, is carefully crafted to ensure the perfect bite every time. This recipe and tradition was passed down to Leon, who brought Nonna’s to Queens. Try the Proud Mary for a tasty cheese pizza at 41-02 Astoria Boulevard. 
 

Rosa’s Pizza (Maspeth)

Rosa’s is a family owned and operated pizzeria that’s been in business since the mid 70’s. They specialize in Sicilian “upside down” pizza, which has a thick and soft crust, different from New York style pizzas, which have a thin and crunchy crust. Their pizza has been nationally recognized as one of the best Sicilian slices around, and they serve an unprecedented variety of specialty pizza. New Park Pizza (Crossbay)

New Park has been serving Crossbay for over 60 years. Over time, they’ve crafted their unique specialty pizzas to perfection. Try their regular slice, which is a New York style pizza. Customers describe New Park as one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Or, try the white slice, which is an Italian style pizza that doesn’t use tomato sauce. Whit’s End (Rockaway) 

Whit’s End doubles as a seafood and pizza joint. Order a prosciutto cotto pie with shrimp or scallops on the side. What makes this place special is their bluefish dip that’s meant to be eaten with the pizza. Customers rave about their delicious red sauce, which is fresh and spicy. In general, Whits’ sauces are highly rated and loved by many. They’re located at 97-02 Rockaway Beach Blvd. 


Grimaldi’s (Little Neck) 

Grimaldi’s is known for their coal-fired brick ovens, which deliver a unique smoky flavor to their thin and crispy pizza crusts. They only sell pizza by the pie, which makes it ideal for sharing– or for keeping to yourself. First-timers are recommended to try the traditional cheese pizza, who’s absence of toppings allow for the flavors of their tasty sauce and crust to shine.
