On Friday morning, the Mets finally put Carlos Mendoza out of his misery.
It was well established throughout this winter and spring that Carlos Mendoza was on the hot seat as Mets manager.
His team was one of the worst teams in the sport over the final 3 months of last season and was involved in an epic 2nd half collapse that left the Mets out of the playoffs.
Mendoza was forced to change his entire coaching staff in the offseason, never a good sign.
Oh and his option for the 2027 season was not picked up by the club, nor was his contract extended.
Add all of that up, you have zero job security. It’s win or time to say goodbye.
The Mets have not done a whole lot of winning in 2026.
In fact, they have been the biggest disappointment in all of baseball.
Last week capped rock bottom of the Mendoza era. On Wednesday, the Mets committed 6 errors in the night cap of a double header against the Chicago Cubs.
After another sloppy loss on Thursday night, the Mets finally made the change.
Was it justified? Absolutely.
Is Carlos Mendoza the biggest part of the Mets 2026 problem? Absolutely not.
The roster that has been put together has been an absolute disaster.
The Mets have been one of the worst offensive teams in the National League.
The Mets starting rotation has been a disaster.
Oh and they’ve been incredibly sloppy.
The pressure now shifts to team president David Stearns and owner Steve Cohen.
Mendoza is no longer around to blame.
The team is 1-3 since the managerial change has been made. New manager, same old 2026 Mets.
The Mets 2026 season is lost at sea. What are the answers for changing the negative vibe that has trapped the franchise for the better part of the calendar year?
