Should I renovate before I put my home on the market?

Q. I’m looking to sell my home, but the agent tells me that in its current state, it will be hard to sell, and I will likely lose a lot of money. I don’t have enough funds to invest in fixing up the problems. What can I do?
A. Some real estate agencies such as ours offer a service where they will help you fix up the home, manage the work, and take care of paying for anything done prior to closing. Payment is deferred until the property closes.
You can work with your agent and the company to determine how much to invest in the process, and you remain in control. Unfortunately, there are not too many agencies that offer this service.
Bear in mind, I don’t always recommend investing money into renovation, but only suggest it on a case-by-case basis. Please contact me if you would like to know more about this service and take advantage of the offer.
Q. How many places should I look at before buying a home?
A. This is a question that many buyers have. Every buyer has a different notion about the answer to this question, which my experience has taught me can depend on a few things.
If you have properly educated yourself on selling prices for homes similar to what you are seeking, then the answer is not one, it’s not ten, and it’s not 20. The answer is that when you see the right place, you’ve seen enough.
Sometimes that happens after viewing only a few homes. Many times I’ve heard buyers lament the fact that they didn’t buy something they saw early on because they felt that they should see more. Don’t let it happen to you.
Every buyer has a list of wants and needs. Be clear with yourself regarding the things that you can live without and the things that you can’t.
