The St. John’s Men’s Soccer team has cracked the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 national rankings for the first time this season. Additionally, the Red Storm moved up six spots to no. 26 in the latest release of the RPI.
The ranking comes after a big home win over Marquette and a tough loss to top-ranked Georgetown. The Red Storm defeated the Golden Eagles, 4-0, in front of 1,100 fans at Belson Stadium for the team’s largest margin of victory this season. With the win, the Johnnies improved to 9-4-2 overall with a 4-2-2 mark in Big East play, good enough for third in the conference standings.
The Red Storm will play their final road game of the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Chicago for a 2 p.m. ET match with DePaul.
On the women’s soccer side, graduate student Zsani Kajan (Budapest, Hungary) has been named the Big East conference’s offensive player of the week.
Kajan, the Big East’s leading scorer, has earned a spot as the league’s top player of the week after recording her second hat trick of the season and the fourth of her Red Storm career in the win over Creighton.
With three strikes against Creighton, Kajan leads the nation with 15 goals on the season and has tied Adriana Viola for the fourth-most in a single season. The Budapest, Hungary, native has bumped her career total up to 43 goals to take sole possession of second place on the program’s all-time scoring list.
The women’s squad returns to action on Thursday when they welcome Villanova to Belson Stadium on Utopia Parkway.
