In its third year, the Senior Informational Luncheon will be hosted by Andrea Ogle, Esq. and include speakers from NYC Medicare Advantage Plus and Beacon Eldercare.
The event is sponsored by Councilmember I. Daneek Miller, District Attorney Melinda Katz, and Assembly Member Vivian Cook, and will be held at Thomasina’s Catering Hall from 12 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 23rd.
Last year, Ogle discussed fraud and the SAFE Act, which was legislation passed last year for people who could not afford to maintain their mortgage payments. “I spoke on the issue of identity theft, and scams as it relates to the seniors and I had someone come in to talk about bankruptcy,” said Ogle.
“I talked about domestic violence and I was also asked to present on the issue of the SAFE Act. There were questions regarding what was going to happen at the end of the moratorium, because a lot of people are facing foreclosure and at that point, if they were not able to come up with a lump sum of money they were required to pay, and the mortgage would be deferred,” Ogle added.
Ogle shared what seniors are to expect from speakers at this year’s luncheon:
A NYC Medicare Advantage Plus Program representative will discuss the new upcoming Medicaid changes in January 2022.
Yvonne Murphy of Beacon Eldercare will be presenting a series of preventative measures for issues such as identity fraud, ways to prevent falls, and many more. Murphy will also be discussing home health care and Medicaid coverage.
“Yvonne is going to do the same great presentation that she normally does, and the format is going to be very similar to last year,” said Ogle. “The difference is that the Queen’s District Attorney’s Office is going to be speaking specifically on scams and identity theft this time and how they prosecute these cases,” Ogle added.
