Queensboro FC II stayed red hot this weekend as they traveled upstate to Albany to take on Black Rock FC.
Unbeaten in their previous eight matches, the Queens side looked for a 5th consecutive win as they continued a phenomenal inaugural USL Academy League season.
Black Rock came into the match with just one loss in their first six matches. They’ve had a consistent goalscoring record, but only kept one clean sheet on the season.
Queensboro struck first to open the scoring, as Nikolas Vidal put one home from a tight angle. It was Damien Barker who set up the goal, sending it across the box.
Black Rock didn’t test the QBFC net too often, only forcing one save from goalkeeper Pol Rodriguez. Still, the hosts found a late equalizer, with Slatter Loffredo leveling the score at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go.
It seemed the match would finish level, but in the last three minutes, Queensboro FC put in a winning goal. Again Vidal found the net, this time assisted by midfielder Mario Salguero who found Vidal in the penalty box.
The game-winner keeps QBFC on pace to challenge AC Connecticut for 1st place in the Northeast Division. This weekend Queensboro FC II looks for a 10th straight match without defeat as they take on Pathfinder FC in Salt Point, NY. A victory will match AC Connecticut’s total of 10 wins.
