I received in the mail a copy of the primary elections from the NYC Campaign Finance Board in English and Spanish and another copy in Korean and Chinese.
What is going on in this city? What a waste of money.
There are hundreds of languages spoken in the world and in NYC, why not cater to them all? New York has always had its foreign language newspapers, radios and TV’s, and its ethnic neighborhoods, and that helps make it the vibrant cosmopolitan city it is.
Official government business should be in one language to unify us.
Did you ever hear Mayor Bloomberg give a speech in English and then repeat it in Spanish? Its more than I can take, no matter how well intentioned it is.
Government shouldn’t cater to one group because the others will demand equality. We live in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world. Imagine what it would be like if we didn’t have one language to communicate with?
If the politicians want to help the people instead of printing everything in different languages, they should spend the money on English lessons, which is the common language of the U.S.A.
Sincerely,
Richard Poljar
