'L' of a plan

Dear Editor,

"Cuomo's L plan good for riders, bad for democracy" (In Our Opinion, January 9) isn't necessarily good for many Canarsie L Line riders.

Having only one tube open overnight weekdays and 24/7 on weekends provides operational problems for NYC Transit. Bi-directional service on one track is risky.

Headway's between trains could be up to 20 minutes. Rather than wait, many riders who need to get someplace sooner rather than later will be forced to switch to Lyft, Uber, taxis or other car services at a much higher cost.

Any train with mechanical difficulties, especially one stuck in the tunnel could result in chaos.

Has anyone looked to see if Cuomo's "new design" requires any modifications to the recently installed Positive Train Control? If so what is the cost and funding source?

Is Cuomo aware that significant numbers of riders use the L Line evenings, overnight and on weekends?

Sincerely,

Larry Penner

Great Neck
