Coming off of the program’s first winning season since 2013, the Queens College men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference preseason poll.

Second-year head coach Frank Vertullo brought back many familiar faces in All-ECC honorees Andras Breuer and Emgi Gousse, along with senior defender Vincent Companion and last year’s breakout scoring forward Pedro Lamarre.

The team will also welcome several strong newcomers to Flushing, including forward Romario Hulea, a San Jose State University transfer who also spent time with Vertullo as a national champion at Suffolk Community College.

The Knights will kick off the 2018 fall campaign at home on Thursday as the squad hosts St. Michael’s in Flushing at 5 p.m.

The Queens College volleyball team will begin the 2018 fall season as an outsider for the four-team East Coast Conference tournament after the Knights were voted to finish sixth in the eight-team rankings.

First-year head coach Kevin Cook will have several front-row players returning from last year’s squad, including sophomore Briana Green, whose performance in the middle earned her an ECC Rookie of the Week mention one fall ago.

Lauren Kehoe and Leeks Hollis are also back for Queens as the squad will look to replace departed setter Kristen Moore and outside hitter Reggie Anthony with newcomers.

Queens will open the 2018 campaign on the road with a four-game, two-day trip to East Stroudsburg University for the ESU Invitational.

The Queens College cross country programs will begin the 2018 campaign as underdogs, with the East Coast Conference preseason poll slotting the men’s team at seventh in the eight-team league and the women’s team six among nine competitors.

The Knights return many of their key contributors from last season on both squads. Alyssa Meltzer, Diana Cruz and Nakeema Neunie headline the returners for the women’s team, while John Hines and Luis Campos Castro are back for the men’s team.

In both polls, Roberts Wesleyan was selected to be the repeat champion with Saint Thomas Aquinas and Daemen following suit in each ledger. NYIT’s Noah Simatei and Aida Torpey of STAC were selected as Preseason Runners of the Year by the conference coaches.

The Knights will open the 2018 campaign at Bethpage State Park on Friday at the Adelphi Panthers Invitational.
