A national medical marijuana dispensary, Curaleaf, will open its 3,000-square-foot storefront at 107-18 70th Road, the former site of Santa Fe Steakhouse.
Curaleaf offers a range of legal and full-strength cannabis products, including vaporizers, capsules, under-the-tongue strips, tablets and tinctures.
PalliaTech NY, a city-based medical marijuana manufacturer and Curaleaf’s parent company, is one of ten organizations licensed to dispense and manufacture marijuana in the state.
“After successful openings in Newburgh and Plattsburgh, we are thrilled to continue the expansion of New York’s medical marijuana program with our new dispensary in Queens,” said Michelle Bodner, president of PalliaTech NY. “Our focus is on ensuring patients facing serious medical issues have access to these important treatments.”
The dispensary's patients include people suffering from cancer, chronic pain, PTSD and other conditions. There will be a licensed pharmacist and counselors onsite to help patients decide on treatment options.
Cannabis-based products were legalized under the New York’s Compassionate Care Act in 2014, but according to the National Cannabis Industry Association, New York is still considered a “restrictive” state and residents cannot smoke marijuana.
Curaleaf New York will become the second marijuana dispensary to set up shop in the borough. Two years ago, Vireo Health of New York opened at 89-55 Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst.
The Forest Hills location was chosen due to its proximity to a number of public transportation options. The site is within blocks of the Long Island Rail Road and the Forest Hills-71st Avenue stop for the E, F, M, and R subway lines, in addition to the Q23 bus.
