Jerry Drake & the Front Page Big Band are hosting a summer concert on the first Friday of every month starting in April and running through August at Maspeth's Knockdown Center.

“We at the Knockdown Center couldn’t be more excited to host a series of concerts with Jerry,” said director Tyler Myers. “The music he makes is so fun, so good to dance to, and Jerry is such a fixture in our community. It’s the perfect combination for a great event.”

Drake and his 12-piece jazz band, which the longtime public school teacher formed in 1998, will be performing original music in the vein of the Great American Songbook, as well popular standards.

“My music is new music, new lyrics, new words, new melodies, and new arrangements,” Drake said. “It is my intention to present original material using the traditional big-band setting.”

Concerts will feature special guests, including In the Groove, a six-piece band that plays funk, classic rock, Motown, and more.

"The Jerry Drake Band keeps the traditional swing with an upbeat feel," said In the Groove singer Charlie Fiumano.

"Jerry Drake is a true musician, he always has a song in his heart and mind,” said Debbie, a longtime fan. “When you speak with him you get the feeling that he is fine-tuning a melody or lyrics in his head.”

Concerts will start at 7:30 p.m. The Knockdown Center is located at 52-19 Flushing Avenue. Tickets are $10, and more info can be found at jerrydrake.com.
