Dear Editor,

The last time I checked, I live in New York City and I want to tell Mayor Bill de Blasio that he works for me and all the other taxpayers in the city, not the other way around.

I have been against the bike lanes on Queens Boulevard from the start and all of the problems they would cause. Now I see it first hand, and a lot of other drivers along this thoroughfare also see the mess these lanes are causing.

Just admit that you made a big mistake putting these bike lanes in and chalk it up to a learning experience.

I believe that taxpayers told you in the beginning that they did not want these bike lanes, but you did not listen and told the taxpayers of New York, “I will do what I want and do not have to listen to you.”

But Mr. Mayor and Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, you do have to listen to us. We live in these neighborhoods, not you.

If you drive down Queens Boulevard, you are escorted in your big SUV, you do not have to sit in traffic.

Where it took maybe 10 minutes or so for someone to drive to the entrance of the BQE, now it takes them 20 to 30 minutes.

Listen to who pays your salaries and be big enough to admit you made a mistakes with these bike lanes. Next time listen to the people who live here.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Schatz
