The last home game of the Queens College women’s basketball season last week began with a ceremony recognizing three seniors for helping lead the team to a number 14 ranking by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

It ended with those same seniors helping to clinch the East Coast Conference regular-season title in the team’s 14th consecutive win at home.

Joya McFarland and sisters Madison and MacKenzie Rowland scored 70 of the team’s 78 points. Madison, one of three sisters who play basketball for Queens College, became the college’s all-time scoring leader with 2,182 career on February 11.

The celebratory win was a bittersweet one for the three students who have played on the women’s basketball team for all of their four years at the college.

“It’s emotional playing our last home game,” said Madison Rowland, a media studies major who was named the East Coast Conference player of the week seven times this season. “This day came quicker than expected.”
