Penner wrong

Dear Editor,

Larry Penner equated "political points" with basic civil rights (“Hello Chick-fil-A” – August 25).

Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy admitted that he was “guilty as charged” of opposing same-sex marriage and gay rights.

He donated $1,017,610 to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Staff and volunteers with the organization have been required to adhere to a strict “sexual purity” policy, prohibiting any “homosexual acts.”

While public safety, transportation, education and employment are all very important issues, I believe civil rights trumps them all. Yes, tolerance means accepting those with different religious values than your own. It also means accepting those with differing sexual preferences.

Here's a simple code to remember: your religious freedom ends where someone else's civil rights begin.

Sincerely,

Robert LaRosa

Whitestone
