Members of the Bishop Kearney High School track team competed in the 2016 Intersectional Championship/CHSAA state championship at Icahn Stadium. Graduating senior Jackie Gallagher finished third in the 1500 meter, qualifying her for the outdoor state championship, only the second time a Kearney runner has qualified.

Graduating senior Theresa Gallagher placed sixth in the 300 meter, missing a medal by one point and also qualifying for the state championship. Rising junior Colleen Gallagher ran a time of 4:57 in the 800 meter, taking sixth place and breaking Kearney’s nine-year-old school record by three seconds.

On the local scene, Colleen placed first in the Buckley’s-Kennedy’s 5K Charity Race in Breezy Point on May 15, followed closely by cousins Jackie and Therese.

In the Kenny Dolan Memorial 5K Race in Prospect Park on June 5th, Colleen was the first female runner to reach the finish line, followed by Jackie in second and Tess in fifth place. Kearney junior Bridget Pynn placed fifth in the 16-19 age group, assuring the team a first place overall win.
