Freshmen trio Michael Conforti, Troy Evans and Seung Yub Baek capped off their rookie seasons with top-10 finishes in the Big East Men’s Golf Championship after strong final rounds at the Callawassie Island Golf Club last week.

“The freshmen played great,” said head coach Mal Galletta. “They have been getting better and better throughout the year and they were ready going into the championship.”

After shooting a 311 (+23), St. John’s carded back-to-back rounds of 294 (+6) to jump three spots in two days and wrap up the conference tournament in fifth place with a team score of 899 (+35).

Georgetown outpaced second-place Xavier by 27 strokes with an even-par 864 finish to claim its third title as a Big East member and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Consistent play from Yub Baek earned him an eighth place finish with a final score of 221 (+5). The Arcadia, California, native closed out on a high-note with a one-over par (73), his best round of the tournament.

Following a slow start, Evans picked up his play each of the final two rounds to close out his first conference tournament tied for ninth. The product from Barre, Vermont, climbed 18 spots from Monday to register a three-round score of 222 (+6).

Conforti improved his score by one stroke each round, concluding with a one-over par (73) final round to also finish tied in ninth place with a total score of 222 (+6).

“We had a great day of practice before the tournament and the guys really learned a lot about how to attack the course,” Galletta said. “They are all very talented players and I am very excited to have them be a part of the future of this program.”
