Five Bears reached double figures led by Matt O’Neill’s game-high-tying 22 points as the St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team never trailed en route to an 84-74 season-opening victory over Ferrum College in the first round of the Dick Leftwich V-Foundation Classic on Friday afternoon in Virginia. The victory gives 14th-year head coach Joseph Cocozello his 200th career win.

The championship game wouldn’t end as well, despite senior Michael Megafurecordin his first double-double of the season with team highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds and fellow classmate Michael Murray scoring a career-high 20 points. St. Joseph’s College would eventually fall to Roanoke College, 105-94, on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears were set to return home to Brooklyn for their home and Skyline Conference opener hosting Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, November 24, at The Hill Center.
