Dear Editor:

How refreshing to hear that the owners of Chick-fil-A plan on opening up to 200 stores in New York City.

Now watch how Mayor Bill de Blasio, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito will attempt to score political points with their liberal friends by opposing Chick-fil-A expanding into the NYC market.

All should worry about more important issues to deal with, like budget shortfalls, growing long-term debt, unemployment and the delivery of essential municipal services.

How disappointing to see this collection of "politically correct" progressive liberals throwing their lot in with political extremists on the right who use the threat of boycotts to impose their moral values on others.

If you don't like the politics of Chick-fil-A, don't eat there. Don't deny the civil liberties of others who might prefer Chick-fil-A. In America, under the free enterprise system this is called freedom of choice.

Entrepreneurs such as the owners of Chick-fil-A have continued to create new employment opportunities without the assistance of taxpayers' stimulus dollars. These people are our neighbors who work long hours, pay taxes and provide local employment. All are true American heroes.

Sincerely,

Larry Penner

Great Neck
