Last Friday, officials broke ground on P.S. 339, a five-story school at 39-07 57th St. that will serve an estimated 472 kids from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

“It is always a very good day when you get to break ground on a brand new school,” said Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer. “The children of Woodside deserve nothing but the very best.”

The new school comes at a time when overcrowding in the neighborhood has become a serious issue, as the population in western Queens continues to rise.

“This school is a desperately needed addition to the community,” said Assemblyman Michael DenDekker.

The school will feature 22 standard classrooms, two special education classrooms, an art room and gymatorium. It will also feature a general use playground and an early childhood playground.

Construction on P.S. 339 began in September, and should be complete in September of 2015.
