Hire a professional educator to head DOE

Dear Editor:

A first step towards redeeming the damage done to our educational system under Michael Bloomberg would be for mayor-elect Bill de DeBlasio to appoint a veteran classroom teacher to head the Department of Education.

We need a departure from the era of shake-and-bake tyrants who met the qualifications to be chancellor because there were no qualifications to meet, since these puppets got waivers that exempted them from being professionally prepared for leadership.
There's no substitute for training and experience, and there's a gigantic pool of talent out there to choose from. Imagine a hospital having a non-doctor as chief of surgery. Or a U.S. Supreme Court judge with no legal background. That is unthinkable.

But not more crazy than the reigning notion that all people are potential commanders of education policy, unless they are educators themselves.

Sincerely,

Ron Isaac
