Dear Editor:

As millions of students return to school, it's important to stress that while computer technology is an important part of the learning process in the classroom, it is not the only one.

Whatever happened to those writing tools known as pens and pencils? Young student learn how to use a computer keyboard before a pencil or pen, but writing skills are so very important. Students must be able to write legibly and neatly. We are stressing technology skills so much in our nation's classrooms that our students are missing out on the basics of good writing and reading skills.

Yes, computer skills are important and will help to prepare our students for the job market in today's technological world, but good writing and reading skills are equally, if not more important, for each and every student to have as well.
