Ridgewood Market and Ridgewood Social hosted a clothing swap fundraiser this past weekend in the backyard of Gotham Thrift Store, located at 60-47 Myrtle Avenue.

"It was a lot of fun, and I met a lot of new people and some vendors [who will be at] the Ridgewood Market," said Sarah Feldman, founder of both the market and the social.

Guests steadily came in from 12 to 4 p.m. with bags of clothing, as well as accessories and books. Attendees were greeted with smiles and Dunkin' Donuts coffee and munchkins while they paid the entrance fee of $5 if they came with goods and $8 if they came without.

As each person entered, they laid their items on the tables and hung others on racks. Then they shopped around and filled their bags with their new wardrobe additions while conversing with other swappers.

All proceeds went to the group and market. The Ridgewood Social is a meetup group intended to bring fun events to the neighborhood while creating community and supporting local businesses.

The Ridgewood Market is a monthly artisanal market of vendors who create accessories, clothing, beauty products and more, as well as vendors selling food and vintage items. The first market will be on April 14 at Gottescheer Hall, located at 657 Fairview Avenue.

After the event was over, guests expressed their satisfaction with the event via the Facebook event page.

"I had a great time. I'm pretty excited with the items I swapped," wrote Madelyn Guerrero. "I got a cool hat."

Leslie Calderon was also pleased with her new items. "Shame I had to leave so early, but it was so much fun and I have some new favorite pieces for my wardrobe!" she wrote.

Others thanked Feldman and Neil Myers, co-organizer of the market and group, for hosting the event.

Myers was equally satisfied with the outcome. "I was pleased by how smooth it ran and how cordial everyone was," he said. "It was a great crowd and an awesome venue."

Due to the event's success, there will be another one sometime in May at the same location, according to Feldman.

"I'm looking forward to the next one," she said.
