Working his way up the ranks from Tiger Cubs from the age of five, he has gone on to earn 22 badges with St. Margaret’s Boy Scout Troop 119, the most recent from his service project where he scraped and painted 156 benches in Juniper Valley Park.
“It’s a total summation of everything I’ve done,” Martello reflected over his years with the troop. “This is almost a 14-year journey, so it is really is an accomplishment.”
Over the years, Martello received numerous academic awards; badges in life saving, personal fitness, pioneering, orienteering and management; and is currently in the pre-med program at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts.
“Now that I have this rank, I am essentially a scout for life,” he said.
