Don’t raise the age of retirement

Dear Editor:

The retirement age in this country is already old enough, we need to lower the age to 62, not raise it to 67 and ask those politicians and ex-presidents who receive pensions - for many years in very large dollar amounts - to share some of their wealth. In addition, any official of the United States that does not pay into the Medicare or Social Security systems be made to do so.

Older Americans very often live alone and are in such a bad economic state. The small amount of Social Security is all they may have to depend on. For those very wealthy in this country - actors, singers and politicians - they need to think of their fans, their constituents; those who help them and sponsor them.

Now those responsible for the people have to give back, and giving back is to not cut Social Security and not raise the age of retirement.

Sincerely,

Susan Sheinin

Brooklyn
