Title Boxing Club is a chain fitness center with locations across the country, but the club in Forest Hills will be its first New York location.
The grand opening was scheduled for January, however, due to issues created by Hurricane Sandy the gym is waiting its turn to be checked out by city inspectors to ensure everything is up to code, according to Danny Azzo, general manager of the club.
While they wait, Azzo said that the public response has been great. The club held a pre-registration, capped at 100 members, offering cheaper rates and no registration fee. The response was so great, the number was upped to 200.
While the theme of the gym is boxing and kickboxing, the focus is based on losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle.
“The gym will be pretty much open to all folks,” Azzo said.
For those who have never boxed before, Azzo said that he knows it may seem frightening because of balance issues and the pain associated with punching, but it’s easily overcome.
And for others the gym itself will be enough of a workout, but members will have access to all of the classes.
“Our classes are designed as power hours,” he said, explaining classes are one hour a day, three days a week, and burn up to 1,000 calories per session.
The club will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The official membership rates have not been determined yet, but members who are not satisfied with the results after 90 days can receive a full refund.
“We’re very confident in our workout,” Azzo said.
