NASA decommissioned the Space Shuttle last year, donating the four shuttles to various museums throughout the country. Enterprise’s permanent home will be at the Intrepid Air & Space Museum.
It will remain at JFK for a couple of weeks while it is safely removed from the 747 jet it rode on. It will then be put on a barge in early June and transported up the Hudson River, when it will be placed on the flight deck of the Intrepid.
A pavilion will be constructed over it, and then Enterprise will begin welcoming visitors.
