Old World Boxing/New Legends boxing showcased club boxing at it’s best at Cordon Bleu in Woodhaven this past weekend.
The eight-fight card showcase undefeated fighters Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, who trains out of Gleason's Gym in DUMBO, Rafeael Vazquez and Frank Galarza of Brooklyn, and a main event featuring Joe Smith of Long Island.
Miller entered the ring wearing a diaper over his boxing trunks, and then proceeded to dominate Donald Crawford of West Virginia, sending him to the canvas for a ten count before the referee stopped the fight.
Vazquez increased his record to 7-0 after hurting Jesus Bayron early in the fight. Galarza, who had a tenacious attitude coming into the ring, backed it up with a convincing win over Jose Ramon Sanchez of Puerto Rico.
In the main event, Smith pounded Amador Acevedo in a light heavyweight bout. Smith's punch ratio was about 15-1 as Acevedo seemed content to stand in front of Smith, blocking punches and occasionally throwing one of his own.
Smith eventually wore Acevedo down, ending the fight in a barrage of punches when he caught him in the corner of the ring. Smith's record improved to 9-0 with five knockouts.
