The thought of eating raw food causes people to shy away. But Organic Village shows that it could be delicious, healthy, filling and vegan. Think about it, you eat raw food a lot more than you realize.
Things as simple as salads, fruit, salsa they are all technically raw food. Not as scary as it sounded before is it?
With items on the menu like tacos, a pizza slice, and burritos it’s hard to say that there is nothing you wouldn’t try.
Granted these aren’t the everyday foods you’re used to, but that does not mean they are not delicious. Now if you’re not feeling that adventurous there are also simple juices and great smoothies.
You walk in to a very small but comfortable restaurant. There are two tables, each with three stools, and a counter with about six stools. Sitting at the counter is great because it makes you feel as if you are right in the kitchen as it is located behind the counter.
The person behind the counter will let you know what is not available that day, this way you know what you’re getting into. They will even offer a sample to the picky eaters.
The cook allowed us to have a few flax chips, which she served to us with a cashew crema. The chips were flavorful and very crisp and they paired up amazingly with the cool almost sour cream like crema.
The burrito is wrapped – not in a tortilla, but in whatever green is available and fresh that day, such as kale or collard greens. Of course there is no meat.
It contains: macadamia nuts, Serrano chili, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts, chipotle powder, cashew nuts, sunflower sprouts, and salsa. Interestingly enough these ingredients make this burrito taste almost exactly like the real deal.
It is flavorful and a bit spicy, but not overpoweringly so. The food will keep you wanting more.
The tropical smoothie is a must. The smoothie is a blend of oranges, bananas, pineapples, mangoes, and dates. It is smooth and delicate, and will have you wondering if you should order one to go. This space may be small but they sure make up for it with great food and amazing flavor.
The food is tasty and filling, in all honesty it is a must go. Remember this is coming from a girl who would choose steak over a vegetable platter. You will not miss the meat. And, they deliver throughout New York City, for a price.
A smoothie and a burrito costs about $17. Sure it’s a bit pricey but if you are in the mood for something filling and as fresh as it gets, then this is the place to go. Visit their site at www.organicvillagenyc or call 718-894-4369.
