Steers to be featured speaker for 2011 Maspeth Memorial Day Parade

Conrad Steers will be the featured speaker on Sunday, May 29, at a ceremony following the Maspeth Memorial Day Parade. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at Maspeth Veterans Square, located at 69th Street and Grand Avenue. Steers will speak on the theme of the parade: Maspeth Honors the Purple Heart Medal.

Steers is Commander of the New York Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served with B Co., 4th BN., 21 INF. of the 11th Brigade of the American Division in TRE, Republic of South Vietnam. Conrad was severely wounded by enemy sniper fire on the morning of June 19, 1970.

He has been actively involved in the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #82, and the United Vets Organization of Nassau County.
