Meet Ryan Sias: Astoria’s number 1 fan, published children’s book author, illustrator and resident fun monster. We met Ryan at the MOCCA Festival held at Manhattan’s Museum Of Comic and Cartoon Art where over 500 cartoonists and illustrators from all over the world showcase their art, comic books and merchandise to thousands of comic book enthusiasts, fantasy cartoon collectors and art students.

He introduced us to “Greenie,” his vegetable pal who was born from a doodle on his sketch pad a few years back. Greenie is the two legged poster veggie for eating healthy while simultaneously helping children learn colors. He is the star of several of Ryan’s books: Are You Eating Something Red? and book of colorable placemats called Are You Eating Something Green?; both published by Blue Apple Books and recommended for ages preschool to 4 years old.

Zoe and Robot, his newest cartoon friends that have come to life through his illustrations, were also on hand. “Robot” is the best buddy of a little girl named Zoe. Through their adventures Zoe tries to teach him the art of pretending which helps open a new world for him outside of his robot ways. The book is recommended for ages 4-7 and you can to find out more or purchase any of Ryan’s books on Amazon.com.

Sias, who has lived in Astoria for 10 years, has made it his life’s work to inspire a child’s interest in art.

Whether a child draws at home or is enrolled in classes, he believes that encouraging kids to be artistic gives them the ability to focus on non-traditional learning while developing different parts of the brain.

His impressive, artistic resume includes household names such as Sesame Street and Nickelodeon, where he has created story boards and helped other companies develop their vision.

He has also created web comic strips and has been given rave reviews on several book sites.

What makes him stand out from other cartoonists? He simply stated that his characters and animation style is “fun, loose and silly.”

Aside from his books, you can find his prints and tees up for sale on his website, www.riansias.com. Contact him at ryansias@yahoo.com to say hi or to place a custom order for your next party, gift or book idea.

And make sure you check out www.riansias.com his site for upcoming book festivals, book signings and a chance to draw with him personally at his next event.
