We need a stop light!

Dear Editor:

I have heard from all three of Maspeth's local elected officials and all three have had their request for a traffic light at 60th Road and 60th Street denied.

Mike Armstrong from Assemblywoman Marge Markey's office is still trying to get us a speed limit of 25mph and flashing lights sign at this intersection.

The community does not want anything else but a traffic light at this corner.  Nothing will stop cars from speeding up 60th Street from 59th Drive to Metropolitan Avenue.

The Maspeth West End Block Association is planning to have another rally at this intersection after our March 31st meeting. Every civic association in this part of Maspeth for the last 45 years has requested a traffic light at this corner and has been denied.

It is much worse now because of all the new housing and the school has more students attending then ever before. The community of West Maspeth wants a light here before another mother has to bury her child or another family has to bury a family member.

What else can be done to get a light at this intersection?

Sincerely,

Charlene L. Stubbs

Co-President

Maspeth West End Block Association
