Lisa Oxborough and husband Andrew hired a Big Apple Greeter – an organization that provides free guides to tourists and takes them to over 100 neighborhoods throughout the city - on their recent visit to New York City. When they got to Lower Manhattan, they were met by none other than Councilman Mark Weprin of Queens (who they no doubt recognized immediately)!
From there, Weprin handled the tour, and took the couple, who were visiting from St. Noets in Cambridgeshire, England, to all of the major sites. First, the councilman took them to the 9/11 Memorial Visitor Preview Site, and then to nearby St. Paul's Chapel. Weprin also explained the significance of Broadway, or the Canyon of Heroes, and then took them to the Federal Building.
But Weprin saved the best for last, ending the tour in City Hall Park, and explained the importance of the work of the City Council, which is never too important, however, to put on hold to ferry a couple of visiting tourists around for an afternoon of sightseeing.
No doubt a birthday Andrew will never forget!
