It's never too cold for baseball.

With the season slated to open in just under two months, the St. John’s baseball team has been ranked No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll. The oldest poll in college baseball, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has been publishing a poll since the 1958 season.

St. John’s is one of four Big East teams in the preseason poll, which was extended to include 40 teams. The Red Storm is joined by Connecticut (No. 16), Louisville (No. 20) and Pittsburgh (No. 30). TCU, which will join the Big East Conference on July 1, 2012, came in at No. 1.

The Red Storm returns 20 letter winners from a 2010 squad that advanced to the program’s 33rd NCAA tournament, reached the Charlottesville Regional title game, won a conference-record sixth Big East Tournament crown and finished with a school-record 43 wins.

St. John’s opens the 2011 season at the third annual Big East-Big Ten Challenge. The Red Storm faces Minnesota, the defending Big Ten Tournament champions, on February 18.
