Members of emergency services at the site of two crashed trains near Bad Aibling in southwestern GermanyBy Joern Poeltz BAD AIBLING, Germany (Reuters) - Ten people were killed and at least 81 injured on Tuesday when two passenger trains collided head-on at high speed in remote countryside in southern Germany. One passenger was still missing, police said, and 18 of those injured were in a serious condition. Police said recovery operations with heavy machinery would be suspended overnight and restart at daybreak on Wednesday.

The Pentagon unveiled a $582.7 billion budget on Tuesday that emphasizes threats like Russia, China and Islamic State rebels, but the proposal is already under fire from Republicans who accuse the president of short-changing the military. President Barack Obama's defense budget for the 2017 fiscal year would increase spending on the fight against Islamic State militants to $7.5 billion from $5 billion this year, a 50 percent jump, budget documents show. Spending to boost training and increase the U.S. presence in Europe would rise to $3.4 billion in fiscal 2017 from $800 million this year, budget documents show.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday unveiled a budget that proposed $2.9 trillion in deficit reduction over 10 years, largely by curbing tax breaks for the wealthy and proposing new savings in the Medicare and Medicaid health care programs. The budget would boost spending to $4.1 trillion for 2017, up $196 billion from fiscal 2016, while raising revenues by $308 over the same period, according to documents released by the White House. The budget also proposes $375 billion in new 10-year savings to federal healthcare programs, including several changes to the Medicare program for seniors.
