A Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor is launched during a successful intercept testThe United States and South Korea are destined to "pay the price" for their decision to deploy an advanced missile defense system which will inevitably prompt a "counter attack", China's top newspaper said on Saturday. Tension on the Korean peninsula has been high this year, beginning with North Korea's fourth nuclear test in January, which was followed by a satellite launch, a string of tests of various missiles, and its fifth and largest nuclear test last month. In July, South Korea agreed with the United States to deploy the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system to protect against any North Korean threats.

Brock Turner -- the former Stanford University student -- served just three months of his six-month sentence for raping an intoxicated and unconscious womanCalifornia's governor has signed a measure mandating prison time for people who rape unconscious or intoxicated victims, the fallout in the case of an ex-Stanford student athlete that sparked widespread outrage. Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation Friday, just weeks after 21-year-old Brock Turner, formerly on the Stanford swim team, was released from jail. Turner served just three months of his six-month sentence for raping an intoxicated and unconscious 22-year-old woman behind a dumpster at a fraternity house.
