Kobe Bryant announced that this would be his final NBA season, the 37-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star walking away as one of the greatest legends in basketball history. Bryant spent his entire 20-season career with the Lakers, the first NBA player to stay so long with the same club.
Guard Mike Conley scored a game-high 20 points as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated Philadelphia 92-84, sending the 76ers to their 18th consecutive loss to begin the NBA season. The 76ers on Sunday tied the NBA's all-time mark for most losses to begin a season, set in 2009 by the New Jersey Nets.
Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant, arguably the best player of his generation, announced on Sunday he will retire after the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season. Bryant, who is struggling through the worst season of his illustrious 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, said in a piece posted on the Players' Tribune website that "I'm ready to let [basketball] go." The decision was not totally unexpected as the 37-year-old Lakers guard has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and had recently said he was considering retirement. This season is all I have left to give," wrote Bryant.
