Tropical Storm Erika left at least 12 people dead in its wake when it swept over the island of Dominica on Friday then rolled on to pummel the Dominican Republic. While crews rushed to search for survivors and clean up scenes of chaos on Caribbean islands, the US state of Florida declared a state of emergency. Forecasters expect the southeastern United States to feel Erika's wrath early next week, after it has lashed Hispaniola and the north coast of Cuba.
Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's support among Democrats has dropped to its lowest point since Reuters/Ipsos began polling on her chances of winning the party's nomination for the 2016 election almost three years ago. Clinton has suffered a steady erosion in the number of people in opinion polls who see her as trustworthy as controversy has grown over her use of a private email account when she served as America's top diplomat. The Reuters/Ipsos survey, a rolling poll taken over the previous five days, put Clinton at 45 percent, with Sanders at 25 percent.
