This Sunday, February 3rd, football lovers or simply lovers of tradition and beer will tune in to watch the much-anticipated Super Bowl XLVII, hosted at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens.
And while New Orleans is very far from New York City, and you’re planning on tucking into your sofa with a Bud Lite and a bowl of Tostitos this year, try a new tradition and head to some of your local restaurants and for a good ole fashioned Super Bowl party.
If you’re located in Brooklyn, check out the Brooklyn Winery this Sunday and experience the excitement on a 180 in flat screen television in their newly designed atrium that serves as a perfect place to enjoy drinks and the game. This sleek wine bar, that actually makes their wine right from the restaurant, is an easy place to find at 213 N. 8th St.
Something else to look forward to is their $5 discount on wine bottles and beer specials, offering six beers for $30 a bucket. Beers on the menu include; Troggs Pale Ale, Crip Six Point, Brooklyn Lager and Coney Island Lager.
The director of operations at the Brooklyn Winery, Jenesy Claire, says “the best thing about it, is the guys can watch the game in the Atrium while us girls can have a glass of wine at the bar.”
Though the big game last year only brought out about 50 patrons, the new atrium and additional advertising for the event has the staff expecting a much larger showing. To learn more on their set up, give them a call at 347-763-1506.
When asked about what she was most excited for, Claire answered that personally, the Beyonce and Destiny‘s Child Halftime Show was what she is looking forward to the most this year.
Bud’s Alehouse in Long Island City is serving a Super Bowl party package deal of $75 per person for all you can eat, open bar and guaranteed seating with tax and tip included. Their menu of foods (Irish Nachos are the most raved about) and a variety of lagers porters, wheats, ales and ciders are sure to make your party a night to remember.
Although this is Bud Alehouse’s very first annual Super Bowl party, general manager Angela Deleonardis strongly recommends to make reservations ahead of time and to purchase in advanced by calling 718-472-1122.
The bar is located at 34-02 Steinway St., a very popular and lively street that attracts much nightlife and the staff is confident the game will have a large turnout. The doors will be open at 5 p.m., however the actual party will start at 6 p.m.
Another place to catch the Halftime Show or football game is The Ranger Texas BBQ at Legend’s at 7104 35th Ave. in Jackson Heights.
Although restaurant manager Frank “Coach” Giannoneis and New Yorker fans are disappointed that the Giants and Jets did not make it to this year’s Super Bowl, personally he is rooting for the Ravens that have “old timers like me,” he said when referring to Baltimore’s Ray Lewis playing in his final game of his career.
One can already tell that the Legend’s Bar and Grill will have some serious football opinionates like Coach to help cheer on, or against, your team.
While they are known for their beef brisket and traditional barbeque, this year Legend’s Bar will be hosting a party with a deal of $50 per person for special drinks, Texas BBQ and the comfort of 9 different televisions to kick back and become a part of the fierce competition.
If you want to make a reservation in advance, call 718-803-8244 for more information. Legend’s Bar and Grill have hosted Super Bowl parties in the past as well, which is why hosting parties like these is something that is comfortable and tradition-like for them.
If you’re looking for somewhere to go for the big game in Sunnyside, pull up a chair at Bar 43 at 43-06 43rd St., just off Queens Boulevard, and sit back and relax to one of their 13 TV screens.
Try one of their many chicken wing combo meals, including their most talked about Atomic Wings, and have a drink off their extensive beer list including a number of local, domestic and imports selections.
If you can’t decide, try the bar’s Beer Flights, offering four draft beers in a 5 oz. glass for just $8.
