Dear Editor,

In Fresh Meadows there are many problems with our street trees, and while the Queens Forestry Division is working very hard to take care of this mammoth task, there are major problems.

The Parks Department must demand that more funding be appropriated so that more tree inspectors and additional tree removal equipment can be added in each borough.

It is totally ridiculous to have to wait months to have a tree inspected, and then if it needs to be removed or pruned to have to wait many more months for it to be done. The safety of the public should not ever jeopardized.

The public has every right to expect to be able to walk down tree-lined streets and through parks and playgrounds and not have to be concerned with a large limb or an entire tree falling on them.

Instead of spending money on more bike lanes, why not use that money to care for the city's trees?

Sincerely,

John Amato
