Teacher: Don't send your sick kids to school

Dear Editor:

As a teacher, I am very concerned about the latest spike in the swine flu outbreak. With six more public schools closed because of it, why doesn't the mayor and chancellor err on the side of caution and shut all of them down and disinfect them? We must be concerned for all who work and come to learn in our schools - both public and non-public. Even though the cases are mild up to this point, there is one assistant principal who has died as a result of this illness. Parents need to make alternative arrangements for their children should schools be closed: it is not the responsibility of schools to babysit your children if they are ill to begin with. Do not send sick children to school!

Sincerely

John Amato
