American Bolero Dance Company and Spanish Benevolent Society-Centro Español proudly present TABLAO FLAMENCO IN ASTORIA, Friday, January 9, 2009 at 8:30 pm.
Tablao Flamenco in Astoria is a series of live flamenco performances in a nightclub setting, taking place at Centro Español’s Auditorium. On the first Friday of every month (with the exception of January 2009), Centro Español, located in the heart of Astoria’s business district, invites the general public to enjoy the culture of Spain through its music and cuisine. Besides the generous assortment of tapas and Spanish wines, Tablao Flamenco, in keeping with American Bolero Dance Company’s mission, presents a variety of Spanish dance styles, with emphasis in Andalusian Flamenco and Spanish classical dances, performed by various local and international artists.
Living up to this reputation, the January 9th show, the third installment of the series, will present Fandango, a classical Spanish dance with modern flamenco flair to the courtly music of composer Luigi Boccherini, the quintessentially Spanish Pasodoble, the deeply solemn Seguiriyas, the joyful Alegrías, and much, much more. This evening’s performance will feature the expressiveness and elegance of dancer/choreographer GABRIELA GRANADOS, the compelling dancing of LA MEIRA, the melismatic singing of ALFONSO CID, the traditional playing of guitarist BASILIO GEORGES, the versatility of singer/dancer AURORA REYES, and the eclectic style of guitarist RAPHAEL BRUNN.
