Dear Editor,

On December 16,1960, two passenger planes collided and crashed in foggy and snowy conditions over New York City. One plane crashed into Staten Island, and the other plane crashed in Park Slope.

All the passengers and crew on both planes perished, and several people were killed on the ground in Park Slope, where the plane destroyed several buildings, damaged several others, and narrowly missed a Catholic elementary school.

It was the worst aviation disaster in the United States at that time.

Sincerely,

John Amato
