Rory wrong for DA

Dear Editor,

A January 13th e-mail from Councilman Rory Lancman proclaimed, "Did you hear the great news? Because of supporters like you, we have raised over $1.1 million" for his campaign for Queens district attorney.

Many of his constituents got the same e-mail with the subject line "1.1 million strong." It should read “1.1 million wrong."

Electing him to this post is like putting Harvey Weinstein in charge of the #MeToo movement. Lancman supports the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation's effort to bail out inmates, regardless of the specific charges against them or their record of prior arrests.

He condemned an NYPD database that identified violent gang members and led to several arrests. He urged the closing of Rikers Island despite fierce opposition from his constituents.

If felon-friendly Lancman were robbed, he would probably read the robbers their Miranda rights while they emptied his pockets or looted his home.

Rather than striking a blow for justice, electing him as Queens DA would be a grave injustice.

Sincerely,

Richard Reif
