Ron Cohen grew up in Fresh Meadows and attended The Kew-Forest School. Now Cohen is giving back to the community he calls home by continuing his second year serving as president of the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

“When I was 12 years old, I was involved in a car accident that hospitalized me for a few weeks,” says Cohen. “Ever since then I have been interested in medical services. Instead, I went into business real estate brokerage in 2000, but I have always maintained this interest.”

Cohen’s business, Gotham West Realty, is located in Manhattan, but he specializes in the Forest Hills and Kew Gardens neighborhoods.

Finding time to commit to Cohen’s business and to the Ambulance Corps is a constant challenge for him. Although this is Cohen’s second year in office, he has been working with the Ambulance Corps since 2007, when he was first introduced to the organization at an Austin Street fair.

Since then, Cohen advanced from member to EMT to Executive Board officer and finally president in May of 2012.

“I actually apply a lot of what I learned about small businesses to the Ambulance Corps daily,” Cohen says. “In a lot of ways realty and service are similar, such as recruiting customers or volunteers, except there is no money transfer involved.”
