Now this is one politician who knows how to throw a fundraiser!

Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr. celebrated his 50th birthday last night with some 450 guests (we don't even know if 450 people even bother to read Pol Position!) that included a musical performance with his family during an hour-long set, and a surprise guest appearance by Police Commissioner Ray Kelly on drums for a rendition of The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar."

Vallone, who was on bass, guitar and drums, also reunited the Vallone Brothers band, which included his daughter Caroline on vocals, mother Tena on the saxophone, brother Perry on guitar, brother Paul on drums, and nieces Lea, Catena and Samantha on vocals.

While most politicians just expect you to fork over your hard-earned money to fund their next political endeavor, Vallone actually performs for you, which could explain why he was able to raise $60,000 in one night with such notable guests as Comptroller John Liu, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, and Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. The extra infusion of cash put Vallone's coffers over the $1 million mark (Happy Birthday indeed!), who is exploring his Queens-wide options for public office once his term in the City Council ends.
