There’s a new president in town, but it isn’t John McCain or Barack Obama.

J.P. DiTroia was installed as president of the Maspeth Kiwanis Club, along with a whole new cabinet and two new board members. The induction ceremony was held last Thursday at O’Neill’s before a crowd of fellow Kiwanis Members from all over Queens.

The new cabinet, including DiTroia, President Elect Nunzio Russo, Vice President Louis Bekios, Secretary David Gigler, and Treasurer Michael Falco, were sworn in by Kiwanis Queens West Division Lt. Governor Wayne Scheriff at the luncheon ceremony, and this cabinet will remain in power until 2011. Also sworn in were DPP John Sammon, Louis Bekios, and Tina DiTroia.

When asked what would change now that he was president, DiTroia said that it wouldn’t be much.

“Past presidents have done such a fantastic job, there isn’t much for me to do,” he said. “Still, every president brings a new style to the position, and I’m hoping to instill a little bit more enthusiasm into an already enthusiastic group. We’ve got a lot of new members and I want to put them to work."
