It is a very sad day when an officer gets killed in the line of duty by one of their own. Officer Omar J. Edwards was killed by a fellow officer Andrew Dunton in what appears now as lack of communication. Blame may go back and forth but the bottom line is a good man and a good officer has died. Omar Edwards died for what he loved doing and that is fighting crime. My heartfelt prayers go out to the friends and family of Omar Edwards who lost a son, father, husband, and a good friend. Our finest have a hard and most dangerous job patrolling our streets and some decisions made take only seconds and communications between uniform and plain clothes is essential. The NYPD in my opinion needs to further define police rules of engagement in order to safeguard all officers so this doesn't happen again.
