Obviously, the man in the middle is former Queens Borough President Donald Manes, and to the right of him is the late Thomas Manton, former congressman and head of the Queens Democratic Party. But beyond that, we were having difficulty identifying the other people in the photo.
Well, we didn't get much help, although one reader noted that the photo was taken in front of Flowerama on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood. The reader also thought she might recognize a young Ted Renz, executive director of the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District, in the photo, and suggested that maybe they were celebrating the inception of the BID. We can't be sure about that, but it's a very good guess.
Then a couple of days ago, we were looking through the archives again, and came across this photo (second pic) of Mayor Ed Koch with two gentlemen, and thought that man on the right looked familiar. Sure enough, he was also in the photo of the ribbon-cutting ceremony that we ran in out November 10th edition.
Well, you don't get to turn up in two photos in the Ledger/Star archives if you're a nobody, so we thought we would toss it out to our readers again. So what say you, can anybody out there shed some light on either of these photos? If so, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
