“Wow, they discovered us!” said one passerby on Grand Avenue at 69th Lane.
One day there were small orange cones on the sidewalks, the next day there were the meters. “Wow, that was fast,” said Dominick, a Maspeth resident who says he shops on Grand Avenue at least three times a week.
Some motorists, though, were concerned that you might have to walk a block and a half to find a box that works.
"The only disadvantage I see is for older or handicapped people who have an extra two trips to and from the car," said Marie Breslin, vice-president of the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce. "Other than that, it makes the avenue look neater and less cluttered."
