As a Kew Gardens Hills resident for 76 years and a new member of the 107th Precinct's Community Council, I'm disturbed by comment made by the commanding officer to news media that cops now pay more attention to 311 social distance complaints.
Our cops shouldn't act like morality police enforcing social customs. This has sparked violent clashes with civilians and charges of racial profiling in other boroughs. Police union leader Patrick Lynch urged NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea to relieve cops of social distancing duties.
In fact, social distancing doesn't work, as Governor Andrew Cuomo revealed by citing a survey showing that 66 percent of New Yorkers hospitalized for COVID-19 were admitted from their homes. This proves that staying home doesn't stop the virus.
As an 80-year-old man, I'm in a vulnerable demographic for this illness, but I probably face a much greater risk of being exposed to Kryptonite.
